Interview with Horrorgasm, LLC. 06/29/2020
Horrorgasm LLC is San Diego’s first horror convention! In addition to the horror convention, they curate art exhibitions, produce an anthology comic, Tales of Horrorgasm, and have created a horror short film, Zoombies (available on YouTube).
Horrorgasm is owned and produced by Attiba Royster, Jennifer Cooksey, and Nyxie Von Rose.

What projects are you currently working on? The art exhibition Summer Slashers is now on view at our online gallery and the third issue of our anthology comic series, Tales of Horrorgasm, is out now. We are preparing for Horrorgasm 2020 which will be a virtual horror convention. The Horrorgasm 2020 virtual convention will feature an art exhibition, Vendor showcase, Haunted Library for horror writers, and a virtual Mixtape which will feature spooky and horror-themed music. Horrorgasm 2020 will also have numerous panels and performances, all celebrating the horror genre.
How has this pandemic affected or shifted your practice? While we had initially planned to host this year’s convention at the Scottish Rite Center, due to the outbreak of COVID-19 we had to shift our event to a virtual convention. All of our art exhibitions and events for 2020 have been altered to an online format for the safety of our artists and attendants.

What has your journey been like as artists? Horrorgasm started as a multi-venue art crawl in 2018 and quickly expanded to a large single venue event in 2019. In 2020 we plan to roll out our largest event yet. Horrorgasm is our love letter to the horror and art community. We have worked tirelessly to support horror creators from writers, musicians, performers, and artists and we strive to continue to amplify the voices of all horror creators. We are an inclusive space and we proudly support LGBTQIA and POC horror creators.
Do you have any tips for up-and-coming or rising artists? Find your passion and go for it. Don’t let fear and self-doubt stop you from achieving your dreams. Make connections in your local art community. The San Diego art community is very inclusive and welcoming, don’t be afraid to put yourself out there.
