Interview with Alma Rosa Nava 08/10/2020
Alma Rosa Nava is an artist who not only paints but makes handmade macrame inspired jewelry. Her businesses are called Soul Bleeding Colors and Soy Manos Del Alma Artisan Jewelry. She is inspired by nature and her connection to her and as well as the universe. She sees jewelry as decoration for the body and an expression. Painting is a form of meditation and connection to her inner God. But also as a playful time to be messy with paint. Her purpose in life is to help upcoming artists and to raise children who want to pursue an art career.
What projects are you currently working on?
I am currently working on a lot of projects, most of them client-based. I have a commission for a painting which will be hanging at my clients new place once it is finished.
How has this pandemic affected or shifted your practice?
The pandemic has pushed me to focus on my business a lot more. When you’re in “survival mode” you get to this place of just doing it rather than waiting. This pandemic has shifted my perspective of life differently in that I would rather do what I love than work at a 9-5 job. And that you really do create your world. We are all energy and life is energy. I took some time to reflect and look at life as an energy realm.
What has your journey been like as an artist?
Heart opening! When you follow your purpose in life and focus on that purpose, I feel that the universe opens your heart. And with that it has challenged me to think and paint/create outside the box! My purpose in life is making art in any form. I love to learn new techniques. Use different mediums. Another purpose is opening studios for artists and children to come and create. We need to preserve our creativity because that is what makes us human. Makes us connect to the universe.
Do you have any tips for up-and-coming, or rising artists?
Have fun and don’t give up. You’re going to have moments that you feel like you are not doing enough but I swear that as long as you are trying everyday, those days add up and by the time you know it you’re like WOW I’m making something out of this art. Another tip is to ask for help! There are artists out there willing to give you advice and guide you in the direction you should go. Follow your intuition as well, and do it with LOVE. You can definitely ask me!
